Burdekin gardeners have the chance to collect some free mulch from the Ayr and Home Hill Waste Transfer Stations next week.
Council’s Governance and Local Laws Manager Dan Mulcahy said a loader would be available at the Ayr and Home Hill Waste Transfer Stations to load trucks, utes and trailers on Saturday, December 6 and Sunday, December 7.
“Council’s stockpiles of mulch are now available to our residents to collect,” he said.
“Mulch is a good soil conditioner and has benefits such as keeping roots of plants cooler, moderating soil temperature fluctuations and holds in soil moisture.
“It also inhibits weed growth, especially now that we’re heading into the wet season.”
A loader will be at the Home Hill Waste Transfer Station on both days from 10am until 1pm and at Ayr Waste Transfer Station from 9am until noon both days.
Residents collecting the free mulch must follow the directions of the transfer station operators at all times and be mindful of others who may be waiting.
