Nominations open for 2015 Burdekin Shire Council Australia Day Awards

Burdekin residents are being urged to nominate someone they think should receive recognition for their work at the Burdekin Shire Council Australia Day Awards.

Burdekin Shire Council Community Development Manager Tony Vaccaro said these awards were a chance to recognise residents and their work within the Burdekin community.

“If you know someone who has done a lot of community work, or has done a lot to promote their culture or done really well in sport, then it is worth making the effort to put their name forward,” he said.

“The Australia Day Awards are about recognising the accomplishments and contributions of local residents.

“If you know of someone who was nominated in the past and wasn’t successful, nominate them again, they might just win this time.”

The award categories include recognition for outstanding citizens, sportspeople, sports administrators, sportsperson with a disability and cultural achievements, as well as a category for community events.

Nomination forms are available from the Burdekin Shire Council Chambers in Young Street, Ayr; the Ayr and Home Hill libraries; and on council’s website at

Nominations will close on Friday, December 19, 2014.
