North’s tourism volunteers to meet in Burdekin

The Burdekin region will be in the spotlight next month when Visitor Information Centre volunteers from throughout North Queensland come to town.

The Burdekin is hosting this year’s North Region Visitor Information Centre Volunteers Conference, which is expected to draw about 100 delegates from the Townsville, Ingham, Bowen and Charters Towers regions, as well as the local area.

Burdekin Tourism Association president Treena List said the two-day conference was an excellent chance for local businesses and tourism ventures to showcase their services to the conference attendees.

“The people attending this conference are at the frontline of tourist information services in this region,” Mrs List said.

“They’re the ones who talk to visitors, give them information, offer them advice and generally make the first impression upon those visitors.

“This conference is a fantastic opportunity to show off the Burdekin’s great products, facilities and services, not to mention its friendliness and hospitality.”

Mrs List said the conference would be held on Tuesday, March 18, and Wednesday, March 19.

Day One will be held at the Burdekin Theatre and will include presentations from industry leaders and operators. The official dinner will take place at the Kalamia Hotel that evening.

Day Two will see delegates having breakfast at the Theatre before embarking on a number of familiarisations at various tourist attractions around town.
