Burdekin Shire Council has approved the design of the new skate park to be built in Brolga Park, Giru.
Operations Manager Wayne Saldumbide said the equipment could now be ordered from Urban Play Pty Ltd.
“It’s a similar design to the Home Hill skate park which has proved quite popular,” he said.
“Urban Play’s delivery time is about 12 weeks and construction will begin as soon as the equipment arrives.
“We intend to have it completed and in use by June 30.”
Mr Saldumbide said Council was building the skate park in partnership with Wilmar Sugar and the Giru Progress Association.
“Wilmar Sugar has already completed pouring the slab, so it will be all systems go when the equipment arrives,” he said.
“The Giru Progress Association is contributing $35,000 toward this project and Council is covering the rest of the project costs.”
The new skate park is positioned between the BBQ shelter and swing set on the western side of Brolga Park.
