Burdekin Shire Council has averted what could have been a tragedy at Kierles Landing.
Chief Executive Officer Matthew Magin said members of the Council team had reported seeing what appeared to be tunnels dug into the sand bank.
“Our workers then went to the site and proceeded to shore up the bank to prevent any potential tragedy which could have occurred if these tunnels collapsed,” he said.
“There are large rocks on top of the bank to prevent people parking cars too close the edge and these have the potential to collapse the sand bank if the bank is compromised.
“Council doesn’t want to be the fun police, but we are asking parents just to keep an eye on their children and stop them from digging into the banks.”
