Burdekin Shire Council is offering residents the opportunity to get the Christmas spirit this week in the lead up to the Burdekin Community Christmas Carols.
The region’s talented musicians and singers are being called to join the Combined Community Band and Choir and there will be lantern decorating workshops held at the Burdekin Library Ayr.
Mayor Bill Lowis said the Burdekin Community Christmas Carols would be held at ANZAC Park Ayr on December 6 from 6pm.
“This is a great opportunity for the whole family, both young and old, to come together and celebrate Christmas,” he said.
“I would love to see our talented singers and musicians join the Combined Community Band and Choir who will be performing at the Carols.
“Our Theatre maestro David Luscombe will be the musical coordinator and all members of our community are welcome to join.
“There will be two rehearsals – tomorrow (Tuesday, November 24) from 7.30pm and next Tuesday (December 1) from 7.30pm at the Band Hall in Home Hill and all music will be provided to those participating.”
Cr Lowis said the Burdekin Library would host two Lantern Decorating Workshops.
“This would be a great way to make sure the kids have a lantern for the lantern parade at the Carols,” he said.
“Our very talented Jackie Kiloh will be on hand to help parents and youngsters create a Christmas Lantern masterpiece.
“If you want to take part in these workshops just bring along a pre-cut plastic/cardboard milk container. All the craft decorations will be supplied.”
The Lantern Decorating Workshops will be held at the Burdekin Library Ayr on Thursday, November 26 at 3.30pm and Friday November 27 at 10.30am.
