Mayor welcomes QR150 gifts

Burdekin Shire Mayor Bill Lowis has welcomed the addition of three bench seats which have been donated to the Shire by Queensland Rail.

The distinctive Q150 red benches were donated to the Burdekin Shire towns of Giru, Ayr and Home Hill to say thank you for being part of the Queensland Rail community.

Cr Lowis said the chairs were specially made by Queensland Rail from an original mould.

“The QR150 bench seats take pride of place at the Giru Post and Take Away, outside the Ayr Post Office in Queen Street and at the Home Hill Comfort Stop,” he said.

“Given that there were only 50 of these seats being donated to towns across the State, it’s great that three have come to the Burdekin in recognition of our rail history.

“I thank Queensland Rail for their generosity and mementos to remember this historic occasion.”
