Burdekin Shire Mayor Bill Lowis has condemned the vandals who threw a large rock through glass and damaged doors at the Burdekin Theatre last night.
Cr Lowis said Council were notified of the damage when the alarm had been activated.
“Thankfully the offenders did not enter the theatre and the damage was restricted to the area of the Green Room entrance,” he said.
“There were also some stickers removed from the newly painted poles outside the Library which means we’ll have to have that painted again and last week there were some stickers removed from the window of the Library.
“This sort of behaviour should not be tolerated and I am urging anyone in the community to come forward if they know who did it.
“Vandalism costs our ratepayers thousands of dollars each year and Council would like to recoup some of those costs from the offenders.”
Cr Lowis said police were investigating the incident at the Theatre.
“We have contacted the police and are considering what measures we can take to prevent this sort of senseless damage being done again,” he said.
