The Burdekin Seniors Advisory Group (BSAG) is seeking help from local tradespeople and handymen.
BSAG Chairman Councillor Ted Bawden said the group was putting together a list of tradespeople and handymen who would be willing to carry out work for the older residents in the Burdekin.
“What we are doing is putting together a register of people who would be willing to do small jobs in the carpentry, tiling and painting areas – the jobs older residents can’t do themselves anymore,” he said.
“We also want to create a list of those interested in doing general housework – cleaning, washing and ironing – plus yard cleaning.
“This list will then be distributed to our seniors for their use.
“People wanting to be included on the list will not only be increasing their work prospects, but also helping our older residents who find it difficult to obtain trades willing to carry out small jobs.
“While affordability is important, the key attributes we are looking for are communication, transparency and honesty.
“We will continue to monitor this list on an ongoing basis to ensure it is kept up to date for our seniors.”
Cr Bawden said other services would be added to the list at a later date.
