Technology is advancing at a rapid pace and the Burdekin Shire Council’s new innovation space Ideas@108 is one way residents experience some of the most recent products.
Burdekin Library Services Manage John Scott said the creative space was a way of building community capacity and making people aware of what was happening and how they could take advantage of new technology.
“For a number of years I have run an informal, but very successful, ‘Tech Talks with John’ Program, where in each hour-long session a current technology trend or issue is explored and sometimes a lively discussion ensues,” he said.
“These sessions are all about giving people the confidence to be aware of what’s happening but not be afraid of it.
“They offer a free ranging discussion on technology and where it’s heading and how it may affect you and in this first session I will be encouraging people to suggest future topics for discussion.”
A new “Tech Talks with John” will kick off on Thursday, September 24 from 10am – 11am.
Mr Scott said the first session would show residents what was possible with 3D printing and how it worked in Ideas@108.
“There are interesting things that will be offered at Ideas@108 in the coming months and years,” he said.
“One is that TAFE North QLD Burdekin Campus is partnering with us to run small short introductory micro business workshops and we hope to advertise the first one of these shortly.”
Bookings are essential for the first session of “Tech Talks with John” so if you are interested in attending please call 4783 9970 to secure your spot.
