Council offers funding options to community groups

Burdekin Shire Council is offering community groups and organisations two types of funding options for events and programs being held in our region.

Community Development Manager Tony Vaccaro said Council had recently updated its community grants requirements.

“We have updated the guidelines to make it easier for organisations to apply for Council funding and to also ensure the projects we are funding have a whole of Burdekin benefit,” he said.

“Our Community Development team are able to help organisations and groups with their applications if required.

“This new process will enable Council to ensure the funding is properly acquitted and that the event provides value for our community.

“It also makes it easier to assess each application on its merit and gives a more structured and transparent approach to our community support.”

There are two types of grants – a Community Development Grant and a Community Support Grant. Council will accept funding applications for either of these grants at any time.

The Community Development Grant provides up to $5000 to suitably qualified community groups and organisations for:

  • Developing new or existing programs or activities within the Burdekin community
  • Minor or local festivals or events that have broad community benefit
  • Projects that promote local sustainability initiatives
  • Projects or events that support civic pride and enhanced social and economic activity

Organisations applying for funding under this scheme are expected to at least match Council’s contribution in either cash or ‘in-kind’ support, or a combination of both.

Funding will not be given to projects that have already commenced or have been completed.

The Community Support Grant provides no more than $500 for:

  • New programs or activities within the Burdekin community
  • Activities and events that have broad community benefit
  • Discretionary contributions to a charitable cause

Community Support Grant applications do not require additional quotations or supporting documentation to be submitted with the application for funding assistance.

Online application forms for any of the grant programs mentioned within these guidelines can be found on our website under Community Information, Grants and Sponsorship.

Alternatively, hard copies can be obtained from the Burdekin Shire Council Customer Service Centre or Burdekin Library (Ayr and Home Hill branches).
