Burdekin Shire Council completed the 2016/17 financial year in a strong position and continues to increase its focus on the community and the promotion of tourism as a key economic driver.
The Annual Report is one of the financial accountability documents required of Council by the Local Government Act 2009 and contains important information for the community on Council’s achievements, challenges, values and plans for the future.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said the document provided an excellent opportunity for Council to present its activities for its first full 12 months in office.
“There have been many highlights with Council expanding a focus in new strategic directions,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“This has not compromised the standard of service provided in the long-established areas of Council’s operations and Council employees continue to deliver programs and services with pride and commitment in their work.
“The Burdekin community spirit is alive and thriving and evident by the support given to numerous community events throughout the year.
“On behalf of Council, I extend sincere thanks to all community members in a wide range of areas who contributed their time, expertise and energy to enhance our district in 2016/17.”
