Council has exciting news! This week Council received confirmation from the Deputy Premier, Minister for Transport and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning the Hon Jackie Trad MP that Council’s Works for Queensland projects totaling $2.93million have been approved.
This funding will be used to renew and upgrade existing infrastructure and also allow for establishment of new projects.
Mayor Lyn McLaughlin advised “Approximately $950,000 will be spent on upgrading road infrastructure and $830,000 will be spent on upgrading facilities across the district including various footpaths and shade sails for the Burdekin Theatre Forecourt.
“Funds of approximately $575,000 have been allocated towards park infrastructure with the major development being a Nature Playground at Plantation Park.
“New initiatives include street art, exercise stations and energy saving measures to the value of $405,000. Public conveniences are set to be upgraded with a spend of $175,000.
Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said “The approved funding of $2.93 million will allow Council to begin work on the endorsed projects immediately with completion by November 2017.
“These projects will create employment opportunities and inject millions of dollars into the Burdekin community. The Burdekin Shire Council thanks the State Government for the funding approval and looks forward to working together to achieve positive outcomes for the residents in the Burdekin community.”
