Local Disaster Management Group Stands Down

This Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) stood down today following the crossing of Tropical Cyclone Debbie and the associated flooding.

Chair, Cr. Lyn McLaughlin said the group was feeling relieved that the Burdekin Shire was not affected by the damaging winds and torrential rain. The Burdekin Shire was only impacted by minor flooding associated with the high levels of rain received in the Burdekin River catchment area.

Kerbside bin collection has returned to normal, and waste bins will be collected next week as per the schedule. Residents are reminded that green waste left on footpaths will not be collected and residents will need to make their own arrangements to remove it from their property.

For future events it is important to remember that the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and Burdekin Shire Council’s websites provide accurate and up to date information and advice.

“I would like to thank Council staff, Emergency Service personnel, community organisation and Government agencies who assisted in the preparation for Tropical Cyclone Debbie and acknowledge their support and advice,” said Cr. McLaughlin.

Our thoughts and support are extended to our neighbours in the Whitsunday Regional Council area with their recovery and rebuilding efforts. Our thoughts are also with the other regions affected by Tropical Cyclone Debbie.
