Burdekin women are invited to celebrate Queensland Women’s Week and meet former residents who have become leaders in their chosen field on 6 March at the Burdekin Theatre.
Burdekin Shire Council, in partnership with the Ayr and Home Hill Chambers of Commerce, will host the cocktail-style event, Burdekin Women – It’s Time to Shine.
Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said the event, supported by YWCA Queensland and the Queensland Government, would showcase successful former Burdekin residents.
“The Burdekin region has been the breeding ground of many innovative and successful women over the years such as acclaimed photographer Anne Geddes, film-maker Marie Patane and world-renowned golfer Karrie Webb,” she said.
“This event will bring two former locals, Marissa Candy and Yvette Le Blowitz, home to celebrate their achievements and share their stories on how they grew up in the Burdekin district and went on to become leaders in their industries.
“We are also excited to have Channel 9’s Footy Show presenter Erin Molan as the key note speaker.”
Cr McLaughlin said Burdekin Women – It’s Time to Shine would also provide an opportunity for local women to network.
“It’s a great event to build your profile within our community and expand your knowledge by learning from the successes of others,” she said.
“We want women to feel inspired and empower them with the confidence to pursue leadership positions in the community and their workplace.”
Burdekin Women – It’s Time to Shine will be held on Monday, 6 March, at the Burdekin Theatre. Bar opens at 6pm for a 6.30pm start. Cost is $25 per person which will include a free drink on arrival and canapès during the event. Bookings can be made by contacting the Burdekin Shire Council on 4783 9800.
