Comedian Sean Murphy to bring family-friendly fun to Community Celebration

The Burdekin’s Queen’s Baton Relay Community Celebration will be fun for all the family with comedian and ‘super-fan of fun’ Sean Murphy set to spread the cheer in Queen Street this Monday 19 March.

Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin invited all residents to join the festivities in Queen Street from 9am to 12.30pm, which will culminate in the journey of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) Queen’s Baton through Ayr.

“We will be celebrating all morning with side walk sales, live music, face painting, children’s activities, entertainment, a jumping castle and come and try demonstrations by local sporting groups,” Cr McLaughlin said.

“Children’s entertainer and comedian Sean Murphy will take centre stage as a special guest performer and we are sure his interactive show will be a hit with children and adults alike.”

Murphy, who has performed at sold out shows at the Sydney and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals and Melbourne Comedy Festival, plans to lead Burdekin audiences on a hilarious and interactive exploration into the best games from around the world.

Following the show, Sean will host an interactive workshop where kids create games of their own.

Cr McLaughlin said Murphy had been performing his Games Boy ’18 Show in communities across the nation.

“We are thrilled to have Sean joining us in Ayr for Monday’s Community Celebration,” Cr McLaughlin said.

“He mixes story-telling, stand-up and clowning to create fun for young and old.”

Also entertaining crowds on the day will be Ayr State High School Band, Ayr State High School Choir, Burdekin Catholic High School Choir, Burdekin Singers, Celtic Dancers, Four Tune Band, KH Dance, Lower Burdekin Caledonian Pipeband, Lower Burdekin Gymnastics, Perform Music Studios and Rhythm Edge Dance School.

Champion Olympic swimmer Brooke Hanson will be a special guest at the event, where she will showcase her Olympic medals and participate in an interactive Q&A session.

Cr McLaughlin said everyone was invited to join the festivities and line the relay route to cheer on the Burdekin’s 16 local batonbearers.

“As an incentive to arrive early, we are offering a free standard size cappuccino to the first 100 people that come and see us at the stage in Queen Street,” she said.
