The Burdekin Shire is situated about 80km South of Townsville. The Shire is in excess of 5,000 square kilometres and home to an estimated 17,651 people. Council owns and operates an aerodrome about 10km north of the township of Ayr and 86kms from the Townsville Airport. The aerodrome has two runways, (Bitumen sealed 1,462m x 30m and Grass 1,127m x 30m) which can handle small to medium aircraft. Burdekin Shire Council is currently investigating the installation of a fuel facility (AVGas and/or Jetfuel and/or MoGas) at the aerodrome. With the installation of a fuel facility, the Ayr Aerodrome is ideally located to attract recreational and smaller commercial users from the region and across the State.
Request for quotation
Council invites responses from suitable suppliers for the development of an aviation fuel facility at the Ayr Aerodrome. A public request for quotation process is being held to allow any interested suppliers to present their development proposals.
Council currently has 3 commercial lessees and 8 recreational lessees at the Ayr Aerodrome. It is estimated these users would access up to 1500 litres of aviation fuel per month. It is anticipated that the number of recreational and commercial operators visiting the Ayr Aerodrome will increase following the installation of a fuel facility. Burdekin Shire Council conducted a survey with RAAUS and Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association members regarding the potential use of a fuel facility at the Ayr Aerodrome.
Burdekin Shire Council is willing to consider all options for the installation of an aviation fuel facility. This could include the Council installing the facility, therefore, looking after the maintenance and operation or the fuel supplier installing, maintaining and operating the facility.
