Giru residents must conserve water

Giru residents are asked to conserve water due to the impact of flooding on the Giru Water Treatment Plant.

Whilst the plant remains operational, increased turbidity in the Haughton River negatively impacts treated water production rates. Normal treated water production rates cannot be achieved until such time as turbidity levels improve following reduced flows in the Haughton River.

The Giru Water Tower and low level storage takes are currently at 100 per cent capacity however it is vital that residents in Giru conserve water.

Please use potable water for essential purposes only until further advice can be issued by Burdekin Shire Council.
