Cultures from across the globe were on display last Wednesday 21 March when more than 100 Burdekin Shire residents celebrated Harmony Day with a morning of free, family fun at C&K Ayr Community Kindergarten.
Children and their families sampled Italian food, participated in Indigenous dancing displays and tried their hands at African drumming during the colourful event hosted in partnership with Burdekin Library, C&K Ayr Community Kindergarten Association and Burdel Healthy Learning Centre.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said the event had been a positive way to highlight Australia’s cultural diversity.
“Our cultural diversity makes the Burdekin a great place to live and enriches our way of life from the foods that we eat to the social connections we make,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“It was fantastic to see so many families of different cultures represented on the day.”
