School Holiday Program

We provide activities to school-aged children during the school holidays. Activities include crafts, games, fitness, movies and anything fun we can think of – check with the library for the list of events close to the holidays.

Fun in the Library

Burdekin Library is home to several iPads and tablets for use in the library, providing you have your membership card.

 Overdrive for Teens

Your own reading room, designed just for you. Visit the Overdrive for Teens website, or download the Libby app.

Crinkling News – newspaper for kids

Crinkling News Logo

Burdekin Library has recently subscribed to Crinkling News, the only national newspaper for young Australians. As parents and veterans of the newspaper industry, the publishers realised there was little in the way of child-accessible news outlets in our country and so decided to create this paper.

Subscribers and readers are encouraged to take ownership of their newspaper by submitting reviews and photographs, writing opinion pieces, and suggesting story ideas.

Come on in to the Library to check it out for yourself.

Spine Out magazine

SpineOut is an inspiring online mag written by and for young adults published by Good Reading Magazine. With reviews of new YA titles in every edition, it is the perfect place to find the next enthralling book to read. Submissions are welcomed from teenage readers, such as short stories, poetry, art, short films or original music and a selection of these is published in every exciting issue!

Coding Fun

Burdekin Library offers free access to Rainforest Coding which is a developing collection of adventures and activities designed to make Scratch, the programming language, easier to understand and fun to learn. There are games to play, projects to remix and lots of sound, graphic and animation allowing you to gain the confidence to use Scratch independently.
