The Burdekin Shire Council adopted the Burdekin Tourism Strategy in August 2018, which will shape the way Council intends to improve and strengthen the visitor economy in the Burdekin. One of the activation areas focuses on Events Diversification and Development which will see Council introduce a robust destination events calendar which will be separate to other calendars on the website.
This calendar will be created for distribution at the Visitor Information Centres, local businesses, community groups, expo’s and the wider region. The calendar will also feature on the new Destination Website that will be unveiled in 2019 and will be considered for inclusion in the Townsville Enterprise Limited (TEL) 2019 Regional Events calendar.
The benefits of developing a destination events calendar is that there will be a clear focus on promoting events that encourage visitors from outside the local community to travel to the Burdekin to attend. It will clearly identify those events which are the ‘hall mark’ events or ‘major’ events for the Burdekin and have uniqueness that will entice visitors to stay and enjoy the local hospitality and experience what the Burdekin has to offer.
Council is inviting all business, community and sporting groups that stage events that meet the criteria to submit their event for inclusion in the Destination Events Calendar. Applications submitted outside of the due date will be accepted however will not be included in the 2019 print version of the calendar.
The closing date for applications will be Monday, November 26th 2018.
