The Burdekin Library is keeping its younger audience members entertained in new locations following the easing of restrictions, with the Library’s popular Storytime and Baby Rhyme Time sessions moved outdoors.
Storytime, a weekly event held at both the Burdekin Library and Home Hill Branch Library, was one of the first Library events in Queensland to be delivered virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said slowly reintroducing physical events that regular Library visitors know and love was an important step in returning to life as normal.
“Families looking to shake off their isolation cabin fever should join Library staff in Home Hill Memorial Park on Wednesdays and Plantation Park on Fridays from 10:30am as they present Storytime outdoors,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“Storytime is a fantastic First 5 Forever program encouraging parents to talk, sing, play and read with their children daily through different picture books, nursery rhymes and dances at each session.
“For younger audience members, Baby Rhyme Time has also returned at the Burdekin Theatre Forecourt every Thursday morning from 10:30am.
“I want to once again commend all Council Officers for their innovation during the pandemic: our Library staff were some of the first in the country to deliver virtual Storytime sessions; our Tourism staff delivered regional Queensland’s first virtual festival; and as an organisation, we were one of the first local government areas in Queensland to adopt our 2020/2021 Budget and Operational Plan. This would not have been possible without dedicated and passionate staff who continue to go above and beyond for our beautiful Burdekin community.”
Catch Storytime in Plantation Park, Ayr every Friday from 10:30am or at Home Hill Memorial Park every Wednesday from 10:30am. Find Baby Rhyme Time in the Burdekin Theatre Forecourt every Thursday from 10:30am. For more information, visit the Burdekin Library Facebook page.
