Unregistered cats and dogs must be registered prior to release. Discounted registration fees apply until 31 July each year. Animals not previously registered in the Burdekin Shire, that are being registered for the first time, have a discounted registration fee of $25 (maximum).
If an impounded animal is 8 weeks of age or older, was born after 1 July 2010, and does not hold a current microchip – the owner is required to provide a receipt from their local vet for the pre-payment of a micro-chipping consultation prior to the release of the animal. Microchipping by Council’s vet is $66 per animal. All animals that are impounded must be microchipped on release.
An Animal Holding Fee of $21.00 is charged per day for a cat or dog.

All impoundment and release fees must be paid in full for animals to be released – instalment plans are not available.

First release for all animals $98. Upon release the animal must be registered and microchipped plus a holding fee of $21.00 is applicable for every day or part day that a cat or dog is in Councils care.
Second & subsequent release for all animals $192. A holding fee of $21.00 is applicable every day or part day that a cat or dog is in Councils care.
