Council has traps, suitable for catching cats and dogs, available for loan (at no charge).

The traps can be kept for a period of seven days before being returned to Council.  During periods of low demand traps may be kept for longer periods, at the discretion of Council.

Traps are to be picked up from Council’s Customer Service Centre in Young Street, Ayr.

Animals caught in the traps can be left at Council’s pound in Mackenzie Street, Ayr or may be picked up by Council at a mutually agreeable time.

Council requests that traps are not set on weekends or public holidays, if you will require Council to pick up the trapped animal, as there is no after hours service available.

If you are having a problem with possums please contact a licensed pest control operator for assistance.  Council traps are only to be used for cats and dogs.

Contact Council’s Customer Service Centre on telephone (07) 4783 9800 to:

  • request a trap; or
  • request pick up of a trapped animal
