There are five locations in the Burdekin Shire where you can dispose of waste.

To ensure your visit to these sites is hassle free please follow the safety instructions provided.  Please always follow the directions of the attendant on site.

Clare Transfer Station:

The Clare Transfer Station is now open as an unmanned site 7 days a week.

The following items will not be accepted at the Clare Transfer Station:

  • Green waste
  • Construction and demolition waste – Kirknie Landfill only
  • Concrete, bricks, pavers, asphalt and soil – Kirknie Landfill only
  • Tyres
  • Batteries
  • Hazardous waste – chemicals, asbestos, paint, oils, fuels or coolants
  • Commercial waste
  • Please follow the instructions on the signage at the site to ensure correct sorting of rubbish and recyclables. Phone: (07) 4783 9800 to report any damage or full bins.

Giru Transfer Station:

Cromarty Creek Landing Road, Giru

(Cross the railway line and turn left – then follow the signs)

Transfer Station and Green Waste. No construction and demolition waste accepted. No trucks or trailers in excess of 3m.

16.5 kms up river from the intersection adjacent to the Burdekin bridge.

Landfill, scrap metal and Green Waste

Greenwaste can be deposited for free to Council’s Transfer Stations and landfill.

Mulch is free to take in domestic quantities and commerical quantities may incur a charge.  Please note that mulch must be loaded by the person taking it.
