Council's Biosecurity Plan

Council works at meeting its General Biosecurity Obligation through the implementation of the Burdekin Shire Council Biosecurity Plan 2020-2025 (the Plan).

The Plan:

• assists Council in prioritising and coordinating pest management activities throughout the region
• outlines Council’s goals, objectives and strategies to implement a planned approach to address the issue of pest management in the Shire.
• identifies resources needed for the effective management of pests and outlines priorities so that resources are managed in the most effective and efficient way.

A working group consisting of government and non-government bodies, local land management groups and Council developed the plan. Through community involvement in its development, there is greater acceptance and understanding of the issue of pest management.

Each year Council reports on its activities as per the Annual Action Plan within the Plan.

The Plan applies to all land and waterways within the region and targets all pest species that are declared under the Queensland Biosecurity Act 2014.
