Council Reviews Clare Transfer Station Six‑Month Operational Trial
Published on 11 February 2026
At Burdekin Shire Council’s Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 10 February 2026 councillors received a report on the six‑month operational trial at the Clare Transfer Station and resolved that the facility’s opening days be amended.
The trial was conducted between 4 July 2025 and 2 January 2026 and involved a change to the facility’s operating schedule, moving from weekly Sunday openings in the 2024/2025 period to a fortnightly Friday service during 2025/2026.
The purpose of the trial was to assess community usage patterns, determine whether Friday openings were more convenient for residents, and identify any potential operational efficiencies.
Community feedback was collected through email submissions, Customer Request Management (CRM) entries and a QR code feedback tool. While the number of responses received was limited, several consistent themes were identified.
Feedback indicated a clear preference among respondents for Sunday operations, with only a small number of residents advising that Friday openings suited their needs. Importantly, no feedback objected to the Transfer Station operating on a fortnightly basis.
Comments focused on the comparative suitability of Sundays versus Fridays, along with the need for clearer signage and improved communication to assist residents in identifying which fortnight the site is open.
Friday, 13 February 2026, will be the final Friday opening of the Clare Transfer Station.
From 1 March 2026, the facility will return to opening on a Sunday, and remain on the fortnightly schedule.
As a convenient reference for the Clare community, the Clare Transfer Station will be open on the same fortnight that yellow‑lid recycling bins are serviced.
