The Burdekin once again proved it is a powerhouse for emerging talent, with performers from across the region shining at the 2026 North Queensland Fast Track Talent Showcase, held on Saturday at the Burdekin Memorial Hall.

A total of 39 acts, ranging in age from just four years old, took to the stage across the heats and final showcase. Performers travelled from across North Queensland — and as far as Darwin — to be part of the event, which remains the only showcase of its kind in Australia.

Ten‑year‑old Lola Lombardi from Townsville was a standout across both the heats and the final, impressing judges with a powerful performance of Never Enough from The Greatest Showman. Demonstrating a vocal ability well beyond her years, Lola was awarded first place, taking home $1,000 in prize money, proudly sponsored by North Queensland Hard Facing.

Runner‑up honours went to Burdekin local Milla Licciardello (16), who delivered a unique and soulful rendition of Gone by Lianne La Havas, accompanying herself on keyboard. Milla was awarded $500 in prize money, thanks to the support of Wilmar Sugar and Renewables.

The coveted ‘Fast Track to Fame’ award was claimed by 15‑year‑old local performer Alaya Mugica, who will now travel for a performance and/or development opportunity with Yoyo Music Management. In an unforgettable moment for the young artist, special guest judge Conrad Sewell also offered Alaya a one‑on‑one songwriting workshop as part of her prize.

Alaya captivated the audience with her creative performance of I Will Survive, beginning with a stripped‑back guitar arrangement before lifting the tempo to conclude on a high‑energy note.

Co‑Founder of Fast Track and Director of Yoyo Music Management, Ben Brazil, praised the event and the depth of talent on display.

“The NQ Fast Track was another huge success this year, showcasing a wealth of regional and local talent. Our team was thrilled to see so many fresh faces on the stage,” said Ben.

“We gave away some brilliant prizes this year — worth over $7,000 — thanks to our amazing sponsors.

“Conrad Sewell was a highlight for the region, and well done to the team at Burdekin Shire Council for continuing to support the arts and providing upcoming performers with a world‑class showcase to be proud of.”

The event was opened on Saturday morning by homegrown talent Rene LeFeuvre, who set the tone with an energetic performance that had the crowd clapping along. Thanks to Burdekin Motors, special guest judge and performer Conrad Sewell closed out the evening with a crowd‑pleasing set, performing hits including Firestone, Healing Hands and Start Again.

Fast Track has been running in the Burdekin since 2014, continuing to provide a unique platform for performers and cementing the region’s reputation for nurturing creative talent.

The event was conducted by the Burdekin Shire Council & Burdekin Shire Youth Council with funding obtained through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). The Regional Arts Development Fund is a Queensland Government through Arts Queendland and Burdekin Shire Council partnership to support local arts and culture.
