Burdekin Shire Council continues to monitor flying fox activity in key locations across Home Hill.

  • Llyod Mann Park
  • Arch Dunn Park
  • Kidby’s Gully

Flying fox are protected under the Nature Conservation Act 1992, and management actions are guided by the Codes of Practice.  Between August and February each year flying fox reproduce and have dependent young.  Staff are aware of the fluctuating numbers in particular at Arch Dunn Park, and are continuing to monitor closely.  On-ground activities are being reviewed regularly to remain working within the guidelines of the codes of practice.

Staff are continuing to use low impact non-harmful techniques with the aim of minimising potential negative interactions between wildlife and the community between 3:00am and 6:00am each day, as required.

The dispersal methods are non-harmful and include deterrents such as LED flashing lights and pool noodles.

Residents living in the vicinity of Llyod Mann Park, Arch Dunn Park and Kidby’s Gully are advised to take precautions to secure pets during these times.
