LDMG monitoring conditions as heavy rainfall develops
Published on 01 January 2026
The Burdekin Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) continues to monitor weather conditions closely as the region enters a period of potentially heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours.
Since 9:00am yesterday, rainfall totals across the Burdekin have been modest. However, heavy rainfall began developing over the region in the early hours of this morning, with further falls possible throughout today and tomorrow.
LDMG Chair, Mayor Pierina Dalle Cort, said river systems are responding as expected and are currently not posing a concern.
“At this stage, both the Haughton and Burdekin River systems remain below flood levels, and we are continuing to watch conditions very closely as rainfall develops,” Mayor Dalle Cort said.
“Public messaging has already been issued to our community, and further updates will be provided should the situation change. We again remind residents that if it’s flooded, forget it.”
The community is encouraged to:
- Stay informed by monitoring official sources of information such as the Burdekin Disaster Dashboard: disaster.burdekin.qld.gov.au and the Bureau of Meteorology: www.bom.gov.au
- Monitor Council’s website and social media channels for updates
- Avoid driving through floodwaters
- Use this time to check your household emergency plans and supplies
The LDMG will continue to monitor rainfall and river conditions and will provide further updates should the situation change.
