Burdekin Shire Council has welcomed the continued progress of the South Ayr Filtration Plant project, following a recent site inspection by the Honourable Ann Leahy MP, Minister for Local Government and Water and Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers.
During her visit to the Burdekin last month, Minister Leahy toured the site alongside Council representatives to gain a firsthand understanding of the project’s progress and the long-term benefits it will deliver for the community.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Pierina Dalle Cort said the South Ayr Filtration Plant represents a major investment in the region’s water security and infrastructure.
“This project is a vital step forward in delivering safe, reliable drinking water to South Ayr residents, and we were pleased to welcome Minister Leahy to the site to see the progress being made,” Mayor Dalle Cort said.
“Council remains committed to strengthening water infrastructure across the Shire, and we sincerely thank the Queensland Government for their ongoing support of this essential project.”
Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy MP said the Queensland Government was pleased to support critical infrastructure that delivers long-term benefits for regional communities.
“Safe and clean drinking water is essential, and this project is a significant step toward ensuring the community has a reliable and secure water supply for years to come,” Minister Leahy said.
“It was a pleasure to visit the site and witness the progress firsthand. I commend Burdekin Shire Council for their dedication to delivering sustainable water infrastructure that supports the long-term needs of the region.”
Once complete, the South Ayr Filtration Plant will play a critical role in improving water quality, aligning with Council’s long-term water strategy and community expectations for safe and reliable water services.
Council extends its thanks to Minister Leahy and the Queensland Government for their continued collaboration and commitment to delivering essential infrastructure for regional communities.
