Burdekin Shire Council is pleased to announce the election of the 2026 Burdekin Shire Youth Council Executive, with three dedicated young leaders stepping into key roles for the year ahead.

William Wiseman has been elected as Youth Mayor for 2026. William attends Burdekin Christian College and has been an active member of the Burdekin Shire Youth Council for the past four years, including serving as Deputy Youth Mayor in 2025. His continued commitment to youth leadership and community engagement has seen him progress naturally into the role of Youth Mayor.

The role of Deputy Youth Mayor has been filled by Alicia Jansen Van Rensburg, who also attends Burdekin Christian College. Having recently relocated to the Burdekin Shire from New Zealand, Alicia was eager to become involved in the local community and has quickly made a positive impact through her involvement in Youth Council.

Jorda Quagliata has been elected as Secretary. Jorda has been a member of the Burdekin Shire Youth Council for five years and currently attends Year 11 at Ayr State High School. Her experience, dedication and strong organisational skills will play an important role in supporting the Youth Council’s activities throughout the year.

Mayor Pierina Dalle Cort congratulated the newly elected Youth Council Executive and acknowledged the importance of youth leadership within the Burdekin.

“Our Youth Council continues to demonstrate the passion, leadership and commitment of young people in the Burdekin,” Mayor Dalle Cort said.

“William, Alicia and Jorda should be very proud of their election, and I look forward to seeing the positive contributions they will make alongside the members of the Burdekin Shire Youth Council.

“The Youth Council plays an important role in ensuring young voices are heard, and Council is proud to support opportunities that help develop future leaders within our community.”

Burdekin Shire Council congratulates the newly elected executive and thanks all Youth Council members for their continued enthusiasm, leadership and commitment to representing the voices of young people across the Burdekin.
