Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) Awareness

Recent detections of H5 bird flu (avian influenza) in Western Australia are a reminder for all Australians to remain vigilant around sick or dead wildlife.

The Queensland Government is closely monitoring the situation and has measures in place to respond quickly if H5 bird flu is detected in Queensland. The current risk to people in Australia remains low.

If you find:

✅ A dead sea bird
✅ A dead shore bird
✅ A dead bird of prey
✅ A dead water bird
✅ Five or more sick or dead birds of any other species
✅ Multiple sick or dead animals of the same species

Remember: Avoid. Record. Report.

Avoid touching sick or dead birds and animals.
Record the location and details.
Report it to the relevant authorities.
