The upcoming Pathways and Possibilities event on Wednesday June 3, will bring together a panel of local speakers and industry voices to lead a community conversation focused on supporting young people.

The event will feature a line-up of experienced presenters and panellists, including Dr. Gerard Chandler and Tayla Heuir, who will share practical insights drawn from their work and experience.

Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Pierina Dalle Cort said the event is designed to give the community direct access to knowledgeable local voices.

“This is about bringing together people with real experience and creating an opportunity for our community to hear from them directly,” Mayor Dalle Cort said.

“We know families are looking for guidance, and this event provides a chance to have those conversations and connect with the people who are working in this space every day.”

The evening will include a keynote presentation and panel discussion, exploring future workforce trends, how to support young people with decision-making, and real career journeys, from students through to experienced professionals.

In addition, more than 15 exhibitors will be in attendance, giving families the opportunity to connect directly with local services and industry representatives across sectors including agriculture, construction, health, education and professional services.

Exhibitors will include a mix of universities and training providers such as James Cook University, CQUniversity, TAFE and Tec-NQ, alongside industry and employment organisations including Wilmar, Ergon Energy, MEGT, Construction Skills Queensland and BreakThrough.

Government and emergency services will also be represented, including the Australian Defence Force, Department of Trade, Employment and Training, and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, along with organisations supporting youth and wellbeing such as YEP, Link and Launch, Selectability, Oakdare and Mater.

“This event is not just about listening, it’s also about connecting,” Mayor Dalle Cort said.

“Following the presentations, attendees will have time to engage directly with industry through informal discussions, ask questions and explore real career pathways.”

The free event will be held at the Burdekin Theatre and is open to parents, carers, educators and community members. Doors open at 5:00pm, presentations and panel sessions from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, followed by a “Meet the Industry” session.
