Burdekin Shire Council is closely monitoring the developing situation in the Middle East and potential impacts to fuel supplies across Australia, working proactively to protect essential services and support the community.

Council’s Crisis Management Team (CMT) met to consider the current situation and ensure Council is well positioned to respond should conditions change.

At this time, Council services remain unchanged, with essential services continuing as normal.

Burdekin Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Mr Matthew Magin said Council relies on fuel to support day‑to‑day operations and critical community services and is planning ahead to manage potential impacts thoughtfully.

“Services such as waste collection, water and sewerage, road maintenance and community facilities are fundamental to daily life in the Burdekin, and Council remains committed to delivering these services responsibly,” Mr Magin said.

“As part of Council’s proactive approach, we are taking sensible steps such as being mindful of fuel use and planning ahead for the possibility of temporary fuel supply constraints. This includes early preparation for how essential services would be maintained if fuel availability became limited.

“These measures help ensure Council remains operationally and financially responsible. Taking a measured approach now ensures Council is prepared should circumstances change.”

To help support our community during this time, Council has added a Fuel Supplies tab to the Burdekin Disaster Dashboard. This provides a central, reliable place for residents to access fuel related updates such as price, without needing to search across multiple sources.

We encourage residents to check the dashboard regularly at disaster.burdekin.qld.gov.au so you can stay informed with the most up to date and verified information.

Council is continuing to closely monitor the situation and is actively engaging with relevant agencies and information providers. Should there be any changes that may affect Council services or the broader community, these will be communicated clearly, promptly and through official Council channels, so residents can feel informed and supported.
