Families invited to explore future career pathways at Burdekin event

Parents and carers across the Burdekin are being encouraged to attend a free information evening designed to help guide young people through future career and study decisions.
Pathways & Possibilities: Supporting Your Child’s Future will be held on Wednesday 3 June at the Burdekin Theatre Foyer, bringing together local industry, education providers and workforce experts to provide practical advice and real-world insights.
The event is delivered in collaboration between Burdekin Shire Council, Jobs Townsville North Queensland (JTNQ), the Department of Education and Regional Development Australia Townsville and North West Queensland.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Pierina Dalle Cort said the event would help families better understand local opportunities.
“The decisions made during high school can shape long term career outcomes, and I am very passionate about training and retaining our people - some may say growing our own,” Mayor Dalle Cort said.
“We need parents and caregivers as well as young people to understand the opportunities available locally and the different pathways into industry.
“This event gives them practical tools to support those decisions and highlights the strong career opportunities available right here in our region.”
Jobs Townsville North Queensland Project Manager and presenter Emma Dobbins said the session would provide insight into future workforce demand.
“We’re seeing strong growth across key industries in North Queensland, with increasing demand for skilled workers,” Ms Dobbins said.
“This event helps families understand where the opportunities are and how young people can connect to them.”
The evening will include presentations on workforce trends, insights into supporting teenagers through decision-making, and a panel showcasing real career journeys, from students through to experienced professionals.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage directly with industry representatives across sectors including agriculture, construction, health, education and professional services.
The event is free to attend, with doors opening at 5:00pm and presentations commencing at 5:30pm. To register visit, https://bit.ly/49wjpSE.
