Burdekin Shire Council is pleased to announce the launch of Get Out Get Active Burdekin, an inclusive eight week community health initiative funded by the Queensland Government through Health and Wellbeing Queensland.

Commencing in May 2026, the program is designed to support community members aged 16 years and over to kick start or continue their health and wellbeing journey in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Get Out Get Active Burdekin encourages participants to explore new ways to stay active, build confidence and improve overall wellbeing. The program is particularly aimed at people who may be new to exercise, returning after a break, or looking to try something different.

As part of the initiative, Council has partnered with seven local activity providers, offering a diverse range of activities to suit different interests and abilities. Participants will select one activity provider for the full eight week program, with options including Chair Yoga, Fit for Life for Over 55s, Reformer Pilates, Small Group Personal Training, Pickleball, Highland Dancing and 24/7 Gym Access with a personalised training program.

Deputy Mayor Max Musumeci said the initiative reflects Council’s commitment to supporting healthier lifestyles and strengthening community engagement.

“Council is proud to deliver this engaging eight week program, giving participants the opportunity to begin their health journey or try something completely new,” Councillor Musumeci said.

“Get Out Get Active Burdekin has been designed to be supportive, inclusive and accessible, making it easier for people to take that first step toward improving their wellbeing.”

Applications are now open. Community members can view participating providers and apply online via visiting https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JBSFYGP, or contact Council’s Community Development team to obtain a hard copy application form.

Places are limited and expected to fill quickly, with residents encouraged to apply early to secure their preferred activity.
