Burdekin Shire Council has completed the installation of new CCTV and surveillance infrastructure at key locations across the region, delivering improved public safety outcomes through the Queensland Government's Secure Communities Partnership Program.

The project has enhanced Council's existing security network through the installation of new CCTV cameras, radio links and supporting network infrastructure, helping to protect public assets and improve monitoring capabilities across several community locations.

Mayor Pierina Dalle Cort said the project represented an important investment in community safety and the protection of public spaces.

“Safe and welcoming public spaces are essential to maintaining the quality of life our residents enjoy in the Burdekin,” Mayor Dalle Cort said.

“These upgrades provide additional surveillance coverage and improved technology that will assist in protecting community facilities, deterring anti-social behaviour and supporting investigations where incidents occur.

“While CCTV is not a replacement for community vigilance, it is an important tool that supports the safety of residents, visitors and Council assets.

“Protecting public infrastructure and creating safer spaces for our community remains a priority for Council, and we welcome opportunities to partner with other levels of government to deliver projects that make a real difference.”

The project was funded through the Queensland Government's Secure Communities Partnership Program.
