Dangerous Dog – Public Safety Alert Issued by: Burdekin Shire Council
Summary
Burdekin Shire Council are issuing this public BOLO regarding a dangerous and repeatedly aggressive dog linked to multiple attacks on community members and police officers. The dog has a history of escaping its yard and posing an ongoing threat to public safety.

Background
Incident 1 – 7 January 2024
- Police attended an address in Ayr after reports of a dog attack.
- A 50‑year-old woman was found with severe lacerations to her leg, consistent with a dog bite.
- Injuries required QAS treatment and further care at Ayr Hospital.
- The dog was identified as a light brown Pitbull-type dog.
- Occupants at an address in Ayr acknowledged their dog had escaped their insecure yard and attacked the woman.
- Neighbours reported regular escapes, attempts to attack them in their own yards, and attacks on their family pets.
- A formal report was supplied to the Burdekin Shire Council on 8 January 2024.
Incident 2 – 29 February 2024
- Around 10:55pm, Police attended an address in Ayr for a conditional bail curfew check.
- After conducting the check, one officer was attacked by the same dog.
- The officer sustained a 5cm laceration, requiring stitches, pain management, and a period on light duties.
- Injuries required hospital treatment at Ayr Hospital.
- Photographs of the injuries have been captured and documented.
Risk to the Community
This dog poses an ongoing and serious risk to:
- Community members walking in the area
- Neighbours and visitors
- Utility workers
- Police and emergency personnel
- Pets and animals within the vicinity
Multiple residents have expressed ongoing concerns. Burdekin Shire Council recognise community expectations around addressing anti‑social and dangerous behaviour but note that repeated incidents such as this endanger officers and hinder efforts to respond effectively.

The owner and the dog have been concealed from authorities for some time. If sighted roaming, acting aggressively, or outside its property:
