Biography
Councillor Callan Oar is serving his first term as a Councillor for Burdekin Shire Council, having been elected in 2024. He is the owner of a locally operated engineering business, which he established 12 years ago.
Born and raised in the Burdekin, Callan began his career by completing a Fitter and Turner apprenticeship with a local business. He went on to work briefly in the local sugar mills and spent six years in the mining industry. After founding his own business, Callan - once an apprentice himself - has taken pride in giving back to the community by successfully training six apprentices.
Callan is actively involved in the community and has held several leadership roles, including former President of Golf North Queensland and Junior Coordinator, Treasurer and Secretary of the Ayr Golf Club. Alongside his family, he continues to participate in multiple community groups and sporting clubs, volunteering his time and energy across many of them.
Councillor Oar is passionate about fostering growth and creating opportunities for economic development. He is committed to building a community that is attractive to families, while preserving the lifestyle, freedom, and opportunities that the Burdekin offered his generation growing up. He describes himself as analytical, honest, open-minded, decisive, and family-oriented.
