The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advises pavement strengthening works will be delivered on the Bruce Highway between Ayr-Dalbeg Road and Conlan Street, McDesme from mid-October 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Construction dates will be posted on Variable Message Signs (VMS) on the approaches to the work sites. These works will be delivered at night, , between 7pm and 6am, to minimise the impact on daytime traffic. These works will strengthen the road pavement to help improve safety, reliability and long-term performance of the road network for all users. During the works through traffic on the Bruce Highway may experience delays of up to 5 minutes.

Traffic management will be in place, and motorists are asked to follow signage and direction from traffic controllers. All works are subject to weather, site conditions and contractor availability. Changes in dates due to poor weather will beposted on the VMS. For information on road closures, hazards and traffic alerts visit www.QLDtraffic.qld.gov.au.

What to expect:

During the works Road users are asked to drive carefully through the roadwork sites and follow the directions of traffic controllers and changed traffic conditions.

Nearby properties may experience noise and artificial light associated with the works, including the sound of trucks reversing and machinery. The contractor will take reasonable and practicable steps to minimise any disruptions to property owners and other stakeholders.

During construction road users can expect:

  • Single lane closures and moderate delay
  • Reduced speed limits
  • Delays of up to 5 minutes
  • Traffic controllers during active construction hours
  • During out of work hours, two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the entire site
  • Access to all properties will remain open at all times.

General traffic information:

  • Priority will be given to emergency service vehicles
  • For heavy vehicles over 3.5 metres wide please refer to the Excess Mass and Dimension database to avoid delays
