Caravan Parks and Swimming Pools

Please note that on Monday 20 July 2026 refurbishment of one of the amenities blocks will commence for up to 3 months.  Caravan site availability is limited during this period; however, the ensuite cabins are still open for bookings. Please call 07 4783 1429 for further information.

Burdekin Cascades Caravan Park welcomes travellers with a variety of accommodation options.

The Burdekin Cascades Caravan Park has caravan (including drive through) and camping sites (maximum 7 day stay when in a tent) as well as a variety of on-site accommodation, both ensuited and non-ensuited, including facilities suitable for travellers with disabilities. One cabin has also been made pet friendly.

The Park offers both short term and long-term sites and has on-site a camp kitchen, barbecue area, two amenity blocks and a dump point. Pets are allowed, please advise when booking.

Burdekin Cascades Caravan Park is located on the Bruce Highway next to the Burdekin Aquatic Centre and just two blocks from the Ayr Post Office, Burdekin Theatre and the main Ayr shopping centre.

Home Hill Caravan Park is a small park located just a few blocks from the highway providing a quiet place for you to relax.

The Park has caravan and camping sites (maximum 7 day stay when in a tent) as well as on-site ensuited accommodation. The amenity block includes facilities suitable for travellers with disabilities.

The Park offers short term and long-term sites, includes drive in sites and has on site a barbecue area and a dump point. Pets are allowed, please advise when booking.

Home Hill Caravan Park is located next to the Home Hill Swimming Pool, very handy for a refreshing dip on a hot North Qld day. (See pool hours using the link below.) It is just a five-minute walk to the main shops on Eighth Avenue (Bruce Highway).

Burdekin Aquatic Centre, Ayr consists of a 50m pool and a separate children's wading pool, a water park. Both pools have shade cover, the main pool is covered only in the shallow end. In 2023 Council was pleased to open a water park on the site. The water park is open to all ages from 9.00 am - 5.00pm daily.

The entry is now via Macmillan Street.

During the 2026 winter season Council will be demolishing the old amenties blocks/kiosk and constructing a new amenities block. Work is scheduled to be completed in time for the summer season on 1 September 2026. 

A lifeguard is on duty at all times that the pool is operating.

Parents, please note that children under the age of 14 years must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult over the age of 18 years.

A kiosk is available on-site selling snack foods including cold drinks.

Due to the cold water temperature the Burdekin Aquatic Centre closes for the northern winter season. Home Hill Pool is open in winter for your swimming needs.

Public Holidays

The Burdekin Aquatic Centre,Ayr is closed on Christmas Day and Good Friday.

All other public holidays the opening hours are 9.00am - 5.00pm.

Home Hill Swimming Pool consists of a 50.3 m (55 yard) pool and a separate children's wading pool. Both pools have shade cover, the main pool is covered only in the shallow end. The Home Hill Pool is serviced with artesian water that maintains a consistent water temperature of around 27^oC.

A lifeguard is on duty at all times that the pool is operating.

Parents, please note that children under the age of 14 years must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult over the age of 18 years.

In 2024, the amenities were refurbished and hot water is now available at the showers, including in the disability amenities.

A kiosk is available on-site selling snack foods including cold drinks.

Home Hill Pool is open all year round with the exception of Christmas Day and Good Friday.

All other public holidays the opening hours are 9.00am - 5.00pm.

Clare Pool is a 25m pool with shadecover over the shallow end.

The Clare Pool will only be open when there is a lifeguard available to supervise swimmers.

Children under the age of 14 years must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or a responsible adult over the age of 18 years.

Council has recently completed the following works on site to improve the facility into the future:

• relined the interior of the pool to ensure it is watertight;
• installed new shade structures;
• repainted the amenities; and
• upgraded the pump and filtration system.
