Rate Notices

Burdekin Shire Council issues rates annually, normally in August. The rate notice includes general rates and utility charges such as but not limited to water, sewerage and garbage. In addition, Council issues a Half Year Water Consumption notice, normally in January.

Rate notices are usually due and payable within 31 days of issue.  The rate of interest to be charged on rates and charges is 8% compound interest, charged on daily rests.  Council will impose interest on rates and charges from the day they become overdue.

Did you know you can pay your Rates throughout the year?

To avoid a lump sum payment, why not make periodic payments in advance? You can make weekly, fortnightly or monthly payments using payment methods listed below to divide your yearly amount into smaller, more manageable amounts to make payment easier. Any payments in advance will show as a credit balance on your next rate notice.

Payment Options

You can make rate payments using one of the following payment options:

What to do if you are unable to pay by the due date?

If you are unable to pay your rates in full by the due date please contact Customer Service to advise of your circumstances so that a suitable payment plan can be negotiated. You will be charged 8% compound interest on any overdue daily balance, but making frequent part payments will minimise interest charges. You will also need to complete an Application to Pay Rates By Periodic Payments Form
