LDMG moves to ‘stand up’

...that is expected to form into a cyclone and begin to impact the coast as early as Thursday 25 January.
LDMG Chair Cr McLaughlin said the LDMG is closely monitoring the situation.
“I want to assure residents that the LDMG and Council are taking this weather event seriously and I urge residents to prepare for a possible impact," Cr McLaughlin said.
"We ask our community to stay informed, be prepared and take steps to secure their properties and belongings.
“Ensure you have an emergency kit and plan ready.”

Be proactive and protect yourself and family with these tips:
- Keep up to date via the Burdekin Disaster and Emergency Information facebook page and the Burdekin Disaster Dashboard, https://disaster.burdekin.qld.gov.au/
- Review your emergency kit and plan. Ensure your emergency kit has enough supplies for all family members, including pets, to sustain themselves for at least five days
- Make sure you have a portable radio and some batteries in case your phone runs out of charge and you need to stay informed
- Clean out your house gutters and overhanging branches
- Mow grass and secure items in your yard
- Secure and tighten fixings and tie-down bolts on your roof
- Remove and store loose furniture or items that could become airborne missiles
- Identify how to turn off mains power for gas, water and electricity
- Purchase emergency supplies such as masking tape, tarps, sandbags and water containers
