Council encourages residents to use free green waste facilities
Burdekin Shire Council is encouraging residents to use its free green waste facilities to get rid of any debris from the recent storm.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said Council understands that many residents have been impacted by the weather event, but they can dispose of their green waste for free at the transfer stations and landfills.
“Council will not be providing kerbside collection for debris so please do not leave waste on the kerbs,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“Council officers are busy working to restore essential services, clearing roads and infrastructure and to ensure that public places are safe and tidy for the community to enjoy.
"There is a lot of work to be done in our parks and gardens, where many trees and branches have fallen.
“State Emergency Service (SES) can only assist with removing debris that blocks access to your property or access into your home.
“The SES is doing a great job, but they have limited resources and they need to prioritise the most urgent cases. If you have debris in your yard that does not pose a threat to your safety or access, please contact your family, friends or a local contractor to help you.”
Council is encouraging residents to be responsible for their own debris and dispose it at Council’s landfill and transfer stations. If you have any questions or concerns phone Council’s Customer Service Centre on 4783 9800.
