Council ensures potable water resiliency throughout the recent weather event
Burdekin Shire Council’s proactive approach to ensuring potable water treatment, storage and network resiliency is paying dividends, with water supply continuing throughout the recent weather event.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said Council was proud of its sound critical infrastructure planning and investments.
“Over the past few years, Council has secured funding to help expand the water storage capacity with the construction of a 5 megalitre reservoir at Home Hill and a 10 megalitre reservoir at South Ayr,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“This has enhanced the resilience of the water network and ensured Council could maintain the water supply throughout the event and that the quality of potable water was not compromised.
Cr Mclaughlin said following Cyclone Kirrily, Council had received enquiries from residents about the safety of the drinking water supply.
"Council has had some enquiries from customers as to whether drinking water is safe to drink – it is,” she said.
“Thanks to Council’s sound critical infrastructure and planning, the water quality has not been compromised.”
