Jerona Road Causeway will undergo urgent erosion control works
Burdekin Shire Council advises that urgent erosion control works will be carried out on the Jerona Road Causeway, following the damage caused by cyclone Kirrily.
Burdekin Shire Council's Chief Executive Officer Terry Brennan said the causeway, which connects Jerona to the rest of the shire, has suffered significant erosion on the northern side, putting the culvert at risk of collapse.
“Further load testing has been conducted this morning to assess the extent of the damage and the need for immediate intervention,” Mr Brennan said.
“Officers have determined that the causeway requires urgent works to stabilise the culvert and prevent further erosion. These works are essential to ensure the safety and accessibility of the residents and visitors of Jerona.
“Erosion control works are scheduled for Wednesday 7 of February from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm and require a temporary road closure for the duration of the works.”
Motorists in the vicinity are advised to follow the detour signs and traffic controllers during the road closure.
Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause and requests your patience and cooperation as these necessary works are completed. For more information, please contact Council's Customer Service on 4783 9800 or visit www.burdekin.qld.gov.au.
