2023 Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival awarded second place
The Burdekin Shire Council is proud to announce the 2023 Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival has won second prize for the Best Festival or Event in the 2023 Grey Nomad Awards.
The festival showcases the Burdekin region’s people, produce and culture whilst celebrating the Burdekin as the Sugar Cane Capital of Australia. Its uniqueness draws in a diverse crowd, from those who wish to immerse themselves in cultural performances, to spectators keen to witness a cane field set alight for the First Fire along with spectators and participants who are all passionate about keeping our sugar cane heritage alive at the Australian Hand Cane Cutting Championships.
The 2023 Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival attracted over 4,000 attendees during the weekend with 70% of attendees from the Burdekin region while the remaining 30% visited from out of town. These impressive numbers continue to highlight the festival as being one of the Burdekin’s key destination events.
Council would like to thank all the sponsors, partners, volunteers and attendees who made the festival a success and helped put Burdekin on the map as a must-stop destination for grey nomads.
Congratulations to all the finalists and winners of the 2023 Grey Nomad Awards.
The Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival is set to grow even more in 2025, attracting more out-of-region visitors, offering an exciting entertainment program, and fostering greater community engagement. The Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival is planned to return from Friday 30 to Saturday 31 May 2025.
